Salaam Ma'al Hijrah 1429


Today Muslims the world over will celebrate Ma'al Hijrah or Awal Muharram, the beginning of the Muslim calender.

Hijrah means “Migration” - the Journey of Prophet Muhammad (PUH) from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD to escape persecution and found a community of the faithfuls.

The second caliph, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, began the practice of using the event as the starting point for the Muslim calendar.
