Am Finally Doing it...

After a lot of coaxing, prodding and, not to mention, nagging from my sister Ena (Nuraina) and friends (Rocky and Zorro, among others), I’m finally taking the plunge.

I have been toying with the idea of starting a blog but never got round to actually doing it. All I did was open a blogger account with Google early this year but I didn’t set up/create a blog simply because I wasn’t sure if I would be able to sustain it. Besides, I was unprepared to open up myself to strangers.

However, I haven’t totally abandoned the idea. I was waiting for the right time. I blog-hop a lot and this has set me thinking that if I could spend so much time surfing the net, why not have a blog of my own. That was when I told Ena and Elviza of my intention.

Not to worry, they assured me. They would help when they (and other bloggers) see me on Tuesday for mee rebus - MRT (Mee Rebus Tuesday).

“Very easy lah, Kak Ton” Ena said. She doesn’t quite understand why I couldn’t figure out how to put those bloody links (which is another reason why I didn’t proceed further).

So during the MRT session at my house yesterday, blogger Elviza literally got me started again - not without any hitches, though.

She sat next to me with her laptop, opened it and said “Ok, Kak Ton, go sign in.”

“Now you need to name your blog,” she said.

I blurted out a few names and finally came up with “Gutsy Grandmother”.

Why Gutsy Grandmother? She asked.

“I AM a grandmother. About being gutsy, well...that's a long story lah,” I told her, “which I’ll keep for later.”

And, Gutsy Grandmother it was. But, of course, I have now changed it to “Tok Mommy”.

Yup, simply “Tok Mommy”, nothing fancy. And, Tok Mommy is a grandmother to Adam (8), Ayra Qistina (2) and Ayna Larissa (1).

To cut a long story short, here it is at last.

Thank you, Elviza. I finally managed to get the links right. I have blogrolled most of the bloggers whom I know and the MRT regulars and linked blogs that I frequent. I might have left out some, but will add them later.

Now if only I can keep up.

With volunteer typists to assist you all you need to do is dictate it on every Tuedays. Make sure the typing is done before serving them the mee rebus.

Suddenly got the urge to re-read Mahathir of Malaysia by Robin Adshead after all these years, and guess what I found inside it. An old newspaper clipping (yes, it is yellow mellow) of your interview with the author. He says this of the Statesman and Leader of shining integrity, you wrote:
"All you need is for someone to say that he is a dictator and for someone else to agree. And this will perpetuate the myth"

What a veritable treasure trove Tok Mommy is going to be! We’re all SOOOO excited and we just can’t hide it.

Jay or Jehan is my daughter. She is named after the wife of the late President Sadat of Egypt.

I was carrying her when I was assigned to cover the former first lady, Jehan Sadat, on her official visit here in 1977.

Jehan Sadat is one lady full of grace. She is a vision of loveliness. Just fell in love with her & was determined that if my baby was a daughter I'd name after her.

You know, orang Melayu percaya the choice of one's name will influence a person's character/personality.

No, Jay is nothing like the First Lady. :(

The one thing Jay has in common with her namesake is that - Jay knows Arabic, having gone to UIA where the language is compulsory for All students.

Ooops soorii, for the diversion, he he he...I got carried away.

Anyway, Jay yes, thank you for your support.

Eh, was that Ciman who posted under the name "maman"?

Ciman (Shariman), by the way, is Jay's hubby.

Yes, Rocky and Nuraina are 'Star bloggers'......

That's because you weren't there yet. So, now you are here. Your presence will complement the 'Star Bloggers' & enrich the bloggosphere. Rocky has also for the longest time wanted Pak Saad to blog. It would be interesting if he does.

Yes, you are journalist, who 'hung her typewriter' so long ago. But then again, you can blog on things from your perspective, as a veteran journalist, a granny, a bloggers' MRT supplier, a host & point of reference where people with so diverse backgrounds, stance and age group, converge once a week, as themselves , socially.

Of course you will hv views & insight of everything you went through differently from others. People like me would treasure all the experience that you went through, 30 over years in journalism and later PR work. Things we can never hv the opportunity to experience.

You will be a "Star blogger" in your own right, at your own pace and space. Of course, Roslani Hashim can be a guest columnist here in 'Tok Mommy', giving his viewpoints also.

We are all glad that you are here, now. Look how many comments you got!

If the Beatles were still around, they'd probably write and sing a song about bloggers. They did one about paperback writers......

Like The Eagles say it "You can check in anytime you like, BUT you can never leave!"

Actually I prefer GUTSY GRANDMOTHER! Maybe you should go with Gutsy Tok Mommy. Hehehe ....... Cepat betul masa berlalu kan? Qistina's adik pun dah one year old. And I still remember the days when Adam was a mere toddler dok kacau Tom Mommy dia nak surfing pun tak senang. Habis pokok bunga Tok Mommy dicabut, kopi Tok Mommy tumpah kat keyboard, etc. LOL! It's great to be seeing you online again. Mwah! ((((KakMaria)))

So during the MRT session at my house yesterday, blogger Elviza literally got me started again - not without any hitches, though.

She sat next to me with her laptop, opened it and said “Ok, Kak Ton, go sign in.”

LOL! This soooo reminds me of the first time you (and I) wanted to (Yahoo) chat. Remember? Nampaknya Kak Maria sekarang dah techno-savvy, eh? Yay to gusty grandma. :)
