Police extend blogger kickdefella's bail

Blogger Syed Azidi Syed Abdul Aziz (pic. right) who was arrested for posting allegedly seditious material in his blog has had his bail extended to Nov 21, reports malaysiakini.

Full report below:

Syed Azidi was arrested on Sept 17 for his alleged campaign to fly the Malaysian flag upside down and was freed three days later on police bail.

His bail expired today and he was called in by the Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) headquarters in Kuala Lumpur to have his bail extended.

According to Syed Azidi, the police required more time to investigate and will confirm if he will be charged when the extension expires.

"I don't know why they have to extend the bail, everything they need to know is there in my posting. It is quite unnecessary," Syed Azidi told a press conference outside the CCID headquarters.

Asked why the bail was extended, Syed Azidi said he believed that the authorities were trying to "stretch the psychological intimidation" on him.

"This is definitely politically motivated. However the police are just doing their job and follow instructions and I don't blame them.

"It's their superior that is doing this. They are trying to place a psychological hindrance," he said.

He reiterated that his detention treatment was fair and the police obliged his requests for medicine, prayer mats and soft drinks - in lieu of his low blood sugar.

‘Intimidation won't stop me'

The Kelantanese also vowed to keep going despite the intimidation he felt.

"The police had confiscated my laptop and they still have it. Once I get it back I will get back to writing. I wont stop," he said laughingly.

Azidi is not the first blogger to be arrested or allege government intimidation.

Penarik Beca webmaster Abu Bakar Mohd Rashid was
arrested for lampooning the Royal Malaysian Police logo.

And Raja Petra Kamarudin - MalaysiaToday webmaster - is in Kamunting detention centre under the Internal Security Act for his blogging. -

Dr M's blog hit two million today

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blog hit two million today - lest than two months after he started blogging.

Say what you like about our Tun: the allegations that he was a dictator during his premiership, corrupt, and a controversial figure.

One thing's for sure: there are many who are still willing and eager to hear what he has got to say. That tells a lot about the man.

Congratulations Tun! Hope you will continue to pen and share your thoughts with us, the ordinary Malaysians.

Dr M hit the one Million jackpot...

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad hit the 1 million mark today after being a blogger slightly less than a month. That comes to an average of more than 33,333 hits per day. Wow! That's the magic number which most bloggers dream of achieving.

Anyway, congratulations Tun!

Here's an excerpt from his latest entry on, what else, if it is not on being a member of, "THE MILLIONAIRE CLUB". Here's what theTun said:

Touching one million hits among bloggers seem to be something to be celebrated.

I was told that most bloggers will congratulate each other when one of them hits the million mark, and call the one millionaire.

Some bloggers have described my achieving the million mark within a month of my first posting as something phenomenal; one even suggested that it may be a world record of sorts. I do not know whether it is.

To me, what is more important is that I have managed to generate enough interest
to get that kind of traffic in my blog.

It is quite an experience to be a blogger even though I am only a month-old.

Much as I saw the importance of cyberspace during my tenure as Prime Minister and hence my commitment to the setting up of Cyberjaya and pursuing the Multi-media Super Corridor (MSC), I did not envisage that I would one day be a blogger.

I note that now the government has recognised the importance of the blogs. It is proposing to have its own blog. But more importantly the mainstream media are now quoting from the blog and even dare to write on formerly forbidden subjects.

This is tobe expected as many people no longer read the mainstream papers or watch television.

The NST circulation has been reduced to an average of 135,000 daily including free and discounted copies for hotels, schools and airlines.Unless there is instruction to spin news from certain quarters, the mainstream media might become irrelevant. Read more here .
