PUTRAJAYA, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Court of Appeal President Datuk Abdul Hamid Mohamad was today made acting Chief Justice until the post is filled, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Department.

The move follows the retirement of Chief Justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim yesterday.

As such, Abdul Hamid will act in the post beginning today until the vacancy is filled. The post will be filled as soon as possible.

Bernama has the full story here and reports here that Fairuz'z position wasnt discussed at the Rulers' Conference.

This is a temporarry post, Datuk Hamid is ACTING CJ. So let us NOT be overjoyed because the PM has someone in mind. Tan Sri Zaki, perhaps?

Oh please, I hope it is not Tan Sri Zaki.

As it is, his elevation to the Bench was questionable. Everybody knows that Tan Sri Zaki Azmi was the lawyer for UMNO.

We need a Chief Justice with integrity, who is uncompromising with impeccable record.

Wasnt T.S. Zaki the chairman of the Umno disciplinary Board who had to resign bcause of a personal scandal?

No, hope it wont be T.S.Zaki

Dato' Abdul Hamid Mohamad is a capable man to be the CJ, just like any member of the bench. However, as for now, he is just temporarily 'filling in' the CJ's seat, until a person is appointed with the consent of HM SPB YDP Agong and Council of HRH Rulers.

Why can't Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi fill the position, if and when HM SPB YDP Agong and Council of HRH Rulers agree to that appointment? Every single legal professional has some degree of biasness and no one is actually and totally IMPARTIAL to everything.

There is a PAS candidate who stood for a Parliamentary seat in General Elections, made a High Court Judge and later Court of Appeal Judge and NONE of these people made to that appointment. You people can be bias BUT not others?????

Who are the people who is making all these 'noises' who should or should not be the Chief Justice? Why are they so qualified to determine who-should-do-what????

The appointment of Chief Justices are way beyond the capacity and/or ability for these people who made these noises!

Zaki may be legally qualified to hold such office. But a candidate for the highest post in the Judiciary must have an impeccable record & free from any controversy.

Zaki has had his share of controversy, that includes his controversial marriage and divorce etc.
