...to decide whether the party should contest the state seat in the upcoming by-election on May 31.
According to Umno official website the meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister and party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, and attended by deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and all three vice-presidents.
The Umno Supreme Council at its meeting last Friday agreed to allow the bureau to discuss the matter and to decide if it should contest the state seat of Penanti which fell vacant following the resignation of Mohammad Firdaus Khairuddin from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) on April 16.
Last night PKR named former academician 58-year-old Mansor Othman as its candidate. Mansor was PKR's state deputy leader.
