Voters in Permatang Pasir started voting at 8am today to elect a new state representative for their constituency.
In all eight polling stations 39 streams are available for voters to cast their ballots, Malaysiakini reports.
The eight polling stations are SJKC Lay Keow Permatang Pauh, SMK Sama Gagah, SK Permatang Pauh, SK Permatang Pasir, SK Bukit Indra Muda, SJKC Kubang Semang, SK Seri Penanti and Sek Rendah Islam Al-Masriyah.
A total of 20,290 registered voters can participate in today's by-election which has been called following the death of incumbent PAS representative Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman, 63, on May 31.
The by-election sees Barisan Nasional's Rohaizat Othman, 38, taking on PAS' Mohd Salleh Man, 52. However both the candidates will not be voting today as they are not registered voters of Permatang Pasir.
EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Yusof says voter turnout as of 9.30am is 14% and advised voters to come out early due to rainy season.
Polling ends at 5pm and the result is expected by 8pm.

i'm sure victory is in Pas' hand. Umno's pathetic candidate has made sure of that! If Umno had expected to make an impact after Manik Urai, they will be sorely disappointed.
and they're still talking about rebranding, reform and whatever re re re.....
They (Umno), will never learn, will they?
One year after the 12th GE ... and lost all by-elections except the only batang, they are still talking abt re, re re..
You are right. BN lost Permatang Pasir.
