Mee Rebus Tuesday

We had two newcomers, Pi Bani and Zawi, at our weekly MRT today.

Raden Galoh came with Pi Bani at around 11.30am. I wasn't properly dressed when they both arrived - had been in the kitchen the whole morning cooking my mee rebus. So I excused myself and ran upstairs to take a quick bath while my other half chatted with them. I have, in fact, been expecting Pi Bani to come to MRT after extending an invitation to her some two weeks ago. I am happy she did.

Pi Bani, who lives in Ipoh, is a volunteer with an NGO providing moral and emotional support to People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). I've always wanted to meet this selfless lady - this unsung hero - eversince I got to "know" her through her own blog and my sister's TWB.

Zawi is from Pasir Mas, Kelantan. He is an excellent narrator who writes about his life-long experience. Pak Zawi came with Elviza a little later together with Acciaccatura.

It was very nice of Elviza to fetch Pak Zawi (who is here on a holiday and staying in Puchong) and Acciaccatura (who lives in Ampang). Bless you, Elviza.

I could instantly recognize Pi and Zawi the moment I saw them, having seen their photos in their respective blogs.

Soon after, The Ancient mariner, an MRT regular, strolled in followed by Kerp who was driven to my house by his girlfriend. She couldn't join us because of some errands she had to do.

Others who came were Husna and her son, Aiman, Pasquale (Dino)and Galadriel who brought with her curry Puffs and some kuih muih, Rocky, Stephen Francis, Rusdi Mustapha and his brother-in-law and Wahti(former journalist and now publisher of TELL magazine).

Rusdi of Seri Menanti called up earlier to say he was coming with his brother-in-law and asked if I’d like him to bring the usual nasi bryanii. Rusdi always brings along his own food because he's allergic to udang kering. an essential ingredient in mee rebus.

Today, not many of the MRT regulars turned up. Mat Salo called up Galadriel to say he was stuck in a traffic jam in Kuala Lumpur and would not be able to make it. And my sister, Nuraina, came when the earlier guests (elviza, r. galoh, Zawi and Acciaccatura) have left.

But I was kind of worried when Zorro, who is usually among the first to arrive, was conspicuosly absent. What with reports of the arrests of some marchers at Parliament House and my biggest fear was that he could be among them.

Ahhh, what a relief when we finally saw him at the door...much much later.

Yaay, uncle Zorro is safe and sound.Thank God!

Salam Maria,
Came here from Zawi's. Very kind of you to host the MRT. First heard about the MRT from the Ancient Martiner and Zawi, when we meet at Kinokuniya, KLCC last Sunday. At first I don't know what it stands for. Having came back from a visit to Singapore a month ago, I thought it was Mass Rapid Transport (Lol). Tapi a visit to Zawi's blog, yesterday, gave me the answer. It must have been a very tasty Mee Rebus, that it has inspired Zawi to write abput it immediattely on his blog (also to upload the photos that he had taken, in the absent of Mat Salo)
Sorry to comment berlebihan pulak. As u.Lee have said "you a grandmother? You certainly don't look like one", and I agree with him. Salam and take care.

Hi lee,

I am the one who should be honoured that you came visiting here lah.

You're one hell of a popular guy, you know that. Just look at the number of comments with every of your entry. That's the envy of most bloggers!

Yup, am a grandmother lah. Now, how should a grandmother look like. He he he!

You're just so kind. When I got married, child marriages hadnt been abolished yet. LOL!

Thanks for being such a gracious host Kak Ton... especially to the 2 early birds yang dah sampai before the hosts were ready! At least I got to see both versions of Kak Ton - before mandi and lepas mandi! ;)

Now that I know where your house is, next time I so happen to be in KL (& kawasan yang sewaktu dengannya) on a Tuesday, I'll try to find the time to gatecrash...

Hi Zabs,

I've seen you around, especially at Zawi's.

I also lol @ I thought it was Mass Rapid Transport

It was one of the bloggers who gave the name to our gathering. Can't recall who, but the acronyms is kind of creative kan?

Thank you for the compliments. Am just bowled over, really.

I suppose nenek2 zaman sekarang dont look like a nenek because we dont act like one.

We dont put on a "siput/sangul" and we dont kunyah sireh. Lol!

MRT was coined by Tony Yew. That was a couple of months ago when I still had to send SMS to the MRT-participating bloggers. Those messages were usually sent after 3 or 4 A.M. and I suppose Tony must have not been too thrilled to see a long SMS at that time of the morning. "Brother, M.R.T. enough ... Understood!", he must have said.

And so MRT it was.

I remember sending an SMS that contained just those three alphabets --- MRT -- to the bloggers in benefit. They all understood. Round about after that, I stopped sending the SMS invite to the regulars. I have to send ONLY when MRT is not going to be in session, and that has happened only TWICE (I think).

Funnily, the last time I told everybody there was not going to be an MRT, hungry Tony still went to Kak Ton's for lunch. And it didn't amuse me that he was actually served food -- GOOD FOOD -- that day!

I hope with the currect Ops Malang (this one is Shar101's creation) will not affect MRT.

Thank you, Kak Ton, for MRT.

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

pi,

As I've said you memang kelakarlah!

I lol @, At least I got to see both versions of Kak Ton - before mandi and lepas mandi! ;)

By all means, sila datang ke rumah whenever (& kawasan yang sewaktu dengannya) on a Tuesday or any other day.

Ini bukan ajak2 ayam tau.

Thanks for your company, sis!

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

rocky,

Must thank Tony Yew for coining that term and it has stuck since.

Yeah, it was Tony's rezeki-lah. Hehehe. Also Husna's & Aiman's, who came for mee rebus, not knowing that there was was none that day.

But they all had laksa Johor instead.

Hey, I hope it wont come to this...Bloggers ban from MRT Gathering. Must apply for Police Permit.

Kak Ton,
I must have confused myself and mixing Pasquale and Rusdi Mustapha. Tried to get the info from Elviza on the ride home. My hearing must be failing me I guess.
My humblest apology to Dino and Rusdy Mustapha.
I shouldnt have blog about it till I got my facts right.
Thanks for the info Kak.

Kak Ton must be given credit for feeding us on weekly basis. I dont envy her weekly task at all but I couldn't imagine my week without MRT.

And her mee rebus is to die for. Celebrity blogger (chet!) Rocky once said, something like this, "if you think you gonna get the recipe for mee rebus, go fly soyuz in the space". It is seriously yummy!

Thanks Kak Ton... and dont forget to thank Abg Ruslani too!

We Tuesday people, Tuesday!

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

Zawi.

No probls. You are not the first and only one confused between the REAL pasquale and the one whose "nick" is pasquale.

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

acciaccatura,

First I wanna to apologise for forgetting my manners. Thank you for the buah tangan. I also forgot to pass some to kak ena. So forgetful one, old age catching fast on me.

Me too, sis. Enjoyed myself having you guys over for MRT.

Kerp: Thank you for the swiss rolls.

R. Galoh & Pi: The pineapple tarts are just sooo good.

Hope to see you all again.

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

Elviza,

Abg Roslani was looking for you after you left. He wanted to thank you for the B&H.

I gave them all to him! Amanah! Err... I took ONLY one packet. :)

Kerp (Ph.D) said...

aye to all!

not a prob, aunty. and my MRT wont be complete without uncle ruslani sending me all the way to the car, bare-footed!

Bergen said...

Ma'am, you gotta tell the men to stop smoking and start exercising. Most of 'em are over-weight. This is ain't good for the struggle they are gonna put up.

I reckon your MRT is gonna be part of history if the bloggers manage to bring down the government thru' their entries.

Ma'am, maybe this is too much for me to ask, but if one of these days you don't have nothing to write, could you just write your mee rebus recipe?

Mat Salo said...

Salaam Kak Ton..

I knew instantly that I was going to regret it --because it's not easy to have the female bloggers extraordinaire's Pi, E(Accia), Dal (RG), Elviza and Anu (Radha) all in one place at the same time. Alas! I already had a prior engagement and having to send home a buddy after my lunch pretty much screwed things up.

But while I was in KL I noticed a little 'overzealousness' on the part of the police. It looks to me like it amounted to harrasment. They put roadblocks in the middle of the road but with no one manning them. The men in blue just sat by, feeling uncomfortable. But cars still had to slow down at the curious impediments thus bunching up traffic. I understand too all PDRM anggotas had their leave frozen until further notice. I really felt sorry for them.

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

kerp.

Uncle Roslani is more than happy to do that for you...anytime.

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

Bergen,

Good advice, sir.

I've been trying to quit smoking myself...may times but without much success.

Now I've quit telling myself to quit.

I think we'll be part of history when the Government thinks the mee rebus gathering is getting too dangerous and bans these subversive elements (bloggers) from coming to my house.

As for your request, maybe, I will when I have run of topics to write abt. Lol!

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

mat salo,

Yo brother, we were kind of disappointed you couldnt make it.

Yeah the traffic was bad, I heard.
Was it because of the public holiday or what?

Hmmm...police working overtime and deployed for the wrong reasons.

Apo nak jadi, jang?

shar101 said...

Dang! Better turn up at MRT soon or I'll lose my regular status to Kerp or worse, have to apply for a permit to enter your home, Maria.

Oi! Rocky, I thought I was the one who coined MRT...or was it TWB?

Bro MS, Tuesday's roadblocks were for the Bersih delegation to parliament, mah.

The Ancient Mariner said...

Bergen, you must me, moi.

But coming to MRT and not partake of Tok Mommy's excellent mee rebus, memang tak sah. Have to forget about trying to 'jaga body'.

Dear Kak Ton,

The camaraderie between all the MRT attendees is a sight to behold. And that spread of glorious food on the table! *drools*

MRT is reason enough for one to become a blogger, I reckon.

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

Shar101: Yo brother! Long time no see.

I know you been busy lah. You "walked" here "walked" there.

Just hope you dont have to "walk" to MRT gathering in protest.

That will be the day!

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

Hi capt,

Was Bergen referring to you?

Thought he was talking about my other half. Hehehe!

maria a samad (kak ton) said...

Hi sesat,

I wasnt a blogger when we started the MRT. Decided to be one after having met them.

Yeah, we're one big family - we're truly Malaysians and we're colour blind too.

I'v never thought this humble dish - the mee rebus - could be the binding force that brought the bloggers(irrespective of the ethnic background and religious beliefs) together.

Thanks for visiting, sesat.
