Parties and parties...
Our large extended family has had quite a busy weekend. There was the gathering to mark Saffron Sunday last night. The kids were absolutely thrilled to bits to hold a lighted candle each... must have been reminded of Malam Raya celebration, although we explained to them earlier what the occasion was all about.
Earlier in the day, there was a joint birthday celebration for Nik Adam Haris, Adam Johari and Heikal Mazlene.
Haris turned 12, Adam, 8 and Heikal 7. Haris is the eldest son of my sister, Lalin, Adam is my grandson and Heikal is Nina's only son (for now, that is).
The birthday bash was held from 10-am -1.30pm at Glacatica's "Starship" at One Utama's new wing. The party was later adjourned to my dad's house in section 16, Petaling Jaya, to allow the older cousins, uncles and aunts to join in the celebration. As usual, there were a lot of food like - pizza and more pizzas and all types of pizzas from Domino's and Shakey's.
On Saturday, my sister, Azah, organised a small birthday "do" at her Subang Jaya house for Hajar and Umar - the children of my late sister, Eda. This is the first celebration they had without their beloved "Umi". Hajar turned 13 and Umar, 15.

I miss large family gatherings. There is just so much laughter and happiness when a family gets together.
Sounds like it was a love-filled weekend, not just for the family but for our fellow Malaysians.
Hi tok mommy, you must be one busy grandma and happy one I am sure :)
Hello aunty ton!!
it seems ur family is very much like mine. we also have nieces and nephews who are older than their aunts and uncles. hehe..style family ramai, memang macamtu la kot. happy birthday little ones!
Hi J.T. I know. Nice isnt it?
When you come from la arge family, there will always be an excuse for some kind of gathering - a wedding, a a kenduri, a farewell party,y etc.
It’s fun and that is how we keep in touch – constant touch. I love all these gatherings.
Oh yes, that was indeed a weekend fill with fun and joy for us all and by sheer coincidence by our fellow Malaysians who were observing Saffron Sunday.
Yes marykate. Busy and happy; happy to see my cucus and anak2 sedara happy. :)
Hi kea,
You know, Aunty Lalin and Aunty Nina could very well be my daughters.
When my mom had aunty Lalin I was 18 - abt to enter University. She was carrying aunty Nina when I got married. My eldest is only 22 months than Aunty Nina. Aunty Nina, Aunty Lalin Nina and Jasmine grew up like sisters.
I treat their kids as if they are my own cusucus rather than my nieces and nephews - because most of them are Adam's age and there are some who are younger than him.
For example, Heikal, Soraya, Sonia and Shamin are so much younger than my grandson.
Adam is rather confused over his position in the family hierarchy
and has refused to call them "tante" or "omp".
"How can? I am older what?" he said
Well, that's a child’s logic and it makes sense - sometimes.
kea. The sentence should read:
"I treat their kids as if they were my own cucus
and.
My eldest is only 22 months younger than...
Type dalam gelap, that's what happened. Lol!
Kak Ton,
Apa kerja menaip dalam gelap??
Happy belated birthday to Haris, Adam and Heikal...
Wow..seronoknya KakTon...and look at the photos...
They sure make you busy eh...
Same here! ill try to explain. My mum is the 7th of 13th. My first cousin, the first cucu (daughter of first daughter)..is about the same age with my last 3 aunts. So they grew up more like cousins. And this cousin, we call her kak long (everyone does) got married before my last 3 aunts. Therefore, her oldest daughter is older than her uncles. She grew up as my cousin. haha. And what makes things more confusing, is that kak long is married to ayah sham. Her mum's cousin. Kira pangkat pak sedara sepupu. heh! Keluarga 69!
Hold on, heikal is aunty nina's son right? Soraya and sofia is aunty lalin's? What about shamin?
aunty maria,
thank you for the mee rebus that uncle zorro tapau-ed for me earlier today. wanted to join you guys but i had national OKU-day celebration to attend to. sure hope to be able to make it next week. thanks. regards to uncle R.
Hi Pi. He he he. Good question. I was Just being considerate. Taip dalam gelap fasal tak nak bangunkan suami dari tidur.
Hi Dalilah,
Ya lah dia orang seronok. Budak-budak ni orang bukan kisah sangat fasal makan. Main dulu. Itu lebih penting. That’s why we chose Galactica as the venue for their birthday bash. Two and half hours of play and fun. Seronok betul!
Kea,
I know what you mean. My father is the 8th in a family of 13. His eldest sister’s son is the same age as my dad. The first time Tante Lalin's husband met him during our annual pilgrimage to S’pore, he asked her: "You're not kidding me. Is he your uncle or your cousin?”
My eldest cousin is old enough to be our dad.
Oh, eight-month-old Shamine is aunty Nina’s youngest.
Hi Kerp,
You’re welcome. So how did the OKU-day celebration go? Am sure you enjoyed yrself.
Hope to see you next week.
And thanks fror the visit.
1 word to sum it up. Boring! hihi...see ya next week.
i love this kind of large gatherings...but kinda painful since my dad gone last April...but as a good friend told me i gotta let go...
i guess he is right...
hi kerp. I thought you'd have enjoyed yourself.
Never mind, you come next week and let our resident comedien entertain you.
Hi zaitgha,
I presume you come from a large family too. Memang seronak kalau ramai adik-beradik. Me too,I love this kind of gatherings.
I am sorry to hear of your loss.
I think it's natural to feel the way you do because every gathering will remind you of your dad.
It was the same for all of us when my mom died. Sadness overwhelms us especially during special occasions like on Hari Raya.
Anyway, you take it easy, sis.
This feeling will pass. InsyaAllah.
