Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today was sworn in today as Malaysia's sixth Prime Minister before the Yang di Pertuan Agung Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin. - Malaysiakini.

He takes over from Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who stepped down after leading the country for over five years.

The ceremony was witnessed by Court of Appeal president Alauddin Mohd Sheriff, the two previous Prime Ministers, Datuk Seri Abdullah and Tun Dr Mahthir Mohamad.

Other dignitaries present included cabinet ministers, menteris besar, the Dewan Negara president and the Dewan Rakyat speaker.

At the same ceremony, Tuanku Mizan conferred the the nation’s highest award the Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN) to Abdullah and the Seri Setia Mahkota (SSM) to his wife, Jeanne. Both awards carry the title Tun.

Prime minister Najib is scheduled to attend Friday prayers at the National Mosque at 2pm.

He will also pay his respects to his father's tomb at the mosque. His father Abdul Razak Hussein was the nation's second prime minister.

Abdullah is expected to hand over the official office to his successor at 4pm in Putrajaya, after which Najib will be giving his first press conference as the prime minister.

Najib will also be attending a tahlil prayer session at his residence in Kuala Lumpur at 7pm.

He will then address the nation at 8.10pm which will be carried live on national television.

Najib's accession to the country's top post completes a transition triggered by elections last year that saw the ruling Umno put in its worst ever performance.

Abdullah tendered his resignation yesterday, after agreeing several months ago to step down in the fallout from polls that transformed Malaysia's political landscape.

I really hope the nightmare is over. Can't believe that Malaysia survived 5-yrs piloted by... whatever.

Our hope is on Najib but I am also happy to see the grand ole man is back. That'll send some shivers down some people's spine and the tiny red dot down south is probably busy right now revising their strategy. Too bad we already lost pedra blanca.

I really hope that the nightmare is over, kan kak Maria?

Pak Lah has just stepped aside,
His legacy, the historians will decide,
Let's leave out the negatives
And focus on the positives.

Is'nt "work with me and not for me"
Better than "I know what's best..listen to me "?
Letting peoples to have their say,
Is'nt that better than having no say?

Realizing the need to change,
Pak Lah has "planted" the seed of change
Will the "soil" allow it to grow and mature,
To bear fruits and increase in stature?

Our hope is for democracy to flourish..
Two alternating, working coalitions
Both having the interests of the peoples
Existing, competing for our votes!

He got the tunship for his Jeanne? Part of the deal for letting go...?

Did Tun Lah also get the Carcosa deal?

Anyway, happy retirement to Tun Lah. May you and Tun Jeanne live happily ever after.
