A(H1N1): Three new deaths bringing total to 59

Three more deaths from Influenza A (H1N1) have been reported, bringing the total to 59 and all of them were among the high-risk group, said Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Ismail Merican, according to a report by the Star.

The first was a 22-year-old man, who was obese, and the second one was a 29-year-old man, who suffered from valvular heart disease.

The third fatality was a 44-year-old woman with a history of asthma, who died of pneumonia.

The 22-year-old man died of viral pneumonia while the cause of death for the 29-year-old man was severe bronchopneumonia.

Dr Ismail said members of the public with mild influenza symptoms were still visiting shopping complexes, traveling, working, going to school or taking public transports.

“The ministry found that many of them did not wear masks while those who do wear masks are the healthy ones,” he said.

He urged those with influenza symptoms to stay home until they recovered.

Dr Ismail said antiviral treatment would only be given to three groups - those with
influenza-like illness and showed risk factors, those with high fever (more than 38c) for more than two days and those who took the rapid test and were found positive for the virus.

“We want to clarify that the vaccine for Influenza A is still not available yet while the one available in the market is for seasonal flu,” he said.

What's the point of telling us how many died every day?

The number od deaths has increased and the situation is cause for concern.

With 59 deaths now since the first death was announced, the H1N1 can no longer be contained. Its scary.

I think the Health Minister and authoriies involved need to be kicked in the butt for failing to contain te virus from the start.

My std three son wont be going to school beginning Monday, (tomorrow), now that his term exams is over. His teacher said it's ok.

He has been going to school with a mask on - been sneezing and has a running nose since last week.

Went to the doctor, but he diagnosed it as common cold. Just rest and avoid crowded areas, he says and drink lots of water.

It's worrying though, with the number of deaths on the increase every day.

Penyakit A (H1N1) nampaknya tiada tanda akan reda.

Berapa lama agaknya kerajaan ingin menunggu sehingga sekolah kosong baru hendak bertindak?

Berapa ramai atau jumlah kehadiran yang perlu dinantikan oleh kerajaan sebelum bertindak menutup sekokolah?

tok mommy,

the death toll has climbed to 64 with two new deaths yesterday.

All the minister did was to give us the latest statistics as if that will make us happy.

I agree with a citizen. The authorities should be kicked in their butt.

Dont think they have done enough to create awareness among the people or inform them enough & now crying out loud to say the situation is serious.
