Najib: You want to protest? We can give you a suitable venue to do so

...says the Prime Minister.

Datuk Seri Najib Razak said the government is prepared to provide suitable venues like stadiums for the people to hold peaceful gatherings instead of parading in the streets and incoveniencing others.

"We can provide them stadiums where they can shout themselves hoarse till dawn, but don't cause disturbance in the streets," said Datuk Seri Najib.

He was commenting on the rally organised by the Anti-ISA Movement (GMI) against the Internal Security Act (ISA) in the federal capital yesterday. (read here)

Demonstrators numbering thousands took to the streets in Kuala Lumpur - causing massive traffic jams, road closures and chaos in the city - calling for the the abolishment of the ISA, a law that allows for detention without trial.

A total of 589 people were arrested during the demonstration, 530 of whom have been released, while 69 are still being held at the Bukit Jalil police station.

Among them is PKR vice-president and Subang MP R Sivarasa who has been remanded for two days and is expected to be charged in court tomorrow.

The Prime Minister also said he will leave it to the police whether to take action against opposition leaders who were involved in yesterday's protests.

Tok mommy,

At least he is consistent. If I remember, he said the very same thing last year before the GE 12 tht demonstration was ok…but not on the streets, only in enclosed places such as stadiums.

He was also consistent with reagrds to the use of the ISA saying that the government wont hesitate using the ISA when the public interest is jeopardized.

So next time, just organise yr rallies at Stadium Melawti in Shah alam or the one in Kelana Jaya. That shouldnt be a problem. Both stadiums are in Selangor, a Barisan Pakatan state.

Kalau nak merancang, pandai-pandailah sikit. Jangan menyusahkan orang awam.

sape nak biar rugi berjuta2 ringgit yang ditanggung oleh para peniaga akibat tunjuk perasaan oleh penganjur anti-ISA haa?

Jawab kamu yang tak mempunyai perasaan terhadap para peniaga dan orang umum.

Aku setuju dgn Datuk Najib. Nak tunjuk perasaan pi kat Bt Jalil, atau mana-mana stadium di mana engko semua boleh terpekik terlolong sampai serak suara.

Hissh! Aku sah bosan dengan tingkah laku parti pembangkan.

Apparently our PM is not sincere. If he is really sincere and really means what he is saying now, then, why didn't he suggest this to the organisers of the anti-ISA rally instead of ordering the police to take action. If he is really concerned about inconveniencing the public and the lost of millions of dollars of sale then he should have allowed the intended peaceful demonstration. The police caused the inconvenience; the police is responsible for the lost of millions of dollars; the police's
action is shooing away potential investors and visitors.Period.

Hello JJ (Jibang-Jibong),

The one who caused hardship, traffic jam, were the police.

In fact they already set up roadblocks leading to the city one day before the demonstration.

It would have been a peaceful march - not demonstration - had they been allowed them to do so.

If it could be done in the west, where police helped direct traffic in rallies where thousands take part, I see no reason why the 3,000 police deployed on Saturday could not handle the gathering.

Anyway, even under normal circumstances, going through KL traffic on a normal Saturday has always been a torture.

What's the matter with Najib? Demos should not be held anywhere; they should not be held at all! In Malaysia, demos are not indicators of democracy, they are a passport to chaos, to anarchy. What is Najib thinking?
