Update: No, he is not joining PKR but yes he has resigned as chairman of the Bakri MCA Division. Bernama has the story here.
Earlier posting:
Malaysiakini reports that former MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng is quitting the party to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).
He has called for an emergency meeting of his Bakri MCA division in Johor tonight where he is expected to quit as its division chief.
According to the report Datuk Chua will be joining the opposition party at a function to be held this weekend. However, no mention was made of the venue for the event.
Chua, 64, a former health minister and a trained lawyer, has been Bakri MCA division chief for 23 years.
He contested for the MCA president's post twice and lost to Ong Ka Ting in 2005 and Ong Tee Keat in 2008.
Chua, however, could not be reached for comments.
PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim declined to comment on the issue when approached during hearing of his sodomy trial today.
