MIC will deliver Indian votes to BN, pledges S. Vellu

MIC President Datuk Seri Samy Vellu says the party is more than ready to face the upcoming general election and promises to deliver the Indian votes to the Barisan Nasional (BN).

He made this pledge in the presence of the Prime Minister, Datuk Abdullah Badawi, at a gathering of over 21, 000 party members and supporters here today.

Datuk Samy Vellu said he had been criss-crossing the country recently, holding gatherings with MIC members, community leaders and interested groups, and "the mood is very favourable to us (BN)".

He was addressing the party's gathering in the run-up to the imminent general election at the Badminton Stadium in Cheras here.

Datuk Samy Vellu, who is the Works Minister, expressed confidence that the Indian voters would once again give their full backing to the Barisan.

Samy Vellu called on the Indians to unite and continue to back the Barisan government for their continued survival.

Who is there to verify the turnout?
Did someone carry out a headcount? 21,000?

Samy wants to prove he is still in control and can command a crowd of that size at a snap of his finger.

Judging from the size of the gathering (if that is the correct estimate)I think he is still in control of the party and has the support of the majority of the MIC members, though not necessarily that of the Indian community.

I just came over from Haris Ibrahim's blog and read the posting of nanda who attended the gathering.

Now he said there were about 6,000 people at the gathering based on the number of chairs in the stadium.

Surely the Bernama reporter would be able to give a correct estimate, right? There is a big difference betweem 6,000 and 21,000.

Why did the reporter "upped" the figures?

A a crowd of 21,000 is hell of a BIG gathering. How big is the Cheras stadium?

This is pure lies on the part of Bernama.

Checked the Star prompted by one Kaki Ayam. The said indoor stadium has a capacity of 6,000. So, there must be 15,000 milling outside.

If Samy velu and MIC had so much confidence to attract the numbers why did they choose this venue? Surely, they would want as many people as possible to be inside the stadium rather than outside.

Maybe the Star by stating the stadium's capacity wanted to tell us that 21,000 is bullshit but the number was sanctioned by higher up.
