Petrol to cost RM2.70 from midnight

... and motorists are queueing up at petrol stations to fill up their tanks before the deadline when the new petrol and diesel prices come into effect.

I was on my way to a gas station one km away from my house when I was caught for 1 1/2 hours in a massive jam as motorists queued up to do the same - fill up their car tanks at the two gas stations on either side of the LDP along the big Giant supermaket.

And I thought we were told that there would not be any petrol increase ...not until August? Datuk Shahrir (Samad) didnt you say that?

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi on Wednesday announced price hikes for petrol, diesel and electricity.

He said the new price for petrol is RM2.70 a litre, effective midnight tonight. The price goes up by 78 sen from the current RM1.92, a hike of 40%.

Abdullah also announced that the price of diesel would be increased by RM1 from RM1.58 to RM2.58.

He also said that Tenaga Nasional Bhd would be raising electricity rates by 18% for homes and 26% for business users.

The announcements are part of the new fuel subsidy plan.

Abdullah also announced a RM625 annual cash rebate per vehicle, for owners of private vehicles with engine capacities of up to 2,000cc, as well as pickup trucks and jeeps with engine capacities of up to 2,500cc.

Owners of private motorcycles with engine capacities of up to 250cc will receive RM150. More...

It is very easy to read. Pak Lah is aware that he is no longer needed by the people and now what he's thinking and doing is to get as much money as possible before he will be kicked off. He knows that there will be no place for KJ, Kamaluudin and his cronies while he is longer at the helm. After he have given peanut to certain group of people (Ceupacs,T.Salleh n Gang, Teachers), now this is a time for him to rob as much as he can.

Go head Pak Lah,keep on stealing the people money. we, Rakyat Marhain who are much affected will not REDHA and forgive for what U have done to us.

Go to hell Pak Lah n Cronies

Salam Tok Mommy.
I couldn't believe that AAB, SIL&Co. could be so heartless to the rakyat... this is the ULTIMATE betrayal of a leader to his people. I hope something drastic will happen to AAB, SIL&Co. to wake him up from his deep slumber for the past 4 years... now we can see the true "mr. clean"... filthy, putar-alam, and, hypocrite!

What happened to thw 30 sens hike...the money that is suppsoed to be put for our public transport? Where has the allocation gone to?

Tok Mommy

I agree with citizen.

We should have ’saved’ RM 9.9 billion, said to be allocated for improving public transport between the last petrol hike and the latest one effectve today.

I dont think any one would object such noble intentions, but but... where is the money and how has that improved our public transport system? I see nothing has been done.

Now Pak Lah tells us we would save RM13.7 billion a year after the new prices take effect today.

Whatlah. Trying to hoodwink the rakyat again?

Pak Lah himself he made this decision not be the most laveable character. But if it is for the benefit of the rakyat for the long term... Well. we'll see, probably a miracle somewhere.

some people taking advantage by selling subsidised petrol to outsiders, this should teach them a lesson

Kak Maria pun dengar Shahrir kata harga minyak takkan dinaikkan sehingga Ogos.

I forgot one more point. Actually AAB hinted on the possibility of Government having to increase the price of petroleum products since last year, during UMNO's AGM, instead of calling for a referendum amongst bijak pandai on reasonable alternatives instead of price hike. What is he up to actually, anyone has any idea?

People should be thinking of ways to get by this petrol and goods price increase. Not merely screaming insults and blaming this and that. Why not be realistic, work hard, earn more money, save more, yeah!

What is the use of our MPs that we elected, they should be scrambling to do some serious brainstorming now. Worse still, some irresponsible leaders ajak-ing their people to take to the streets about the issue. Is that really the way to go my fellow malaysians?

Tok Mommy,

Pak Lah has the cheek to ask the rakyat to "Ubah gaya hidup."

Doesnt he know that we are already suffering with prices of things going up?

We could barely make ends meet. How to ubah gaya hidup? Nak simpan duit at the end of the month pun tak ada. Duit gaji ngam-ngam.

My sister-in-law with four growing kids the eldest form five and the youngest aged four is groaning. Mengeluh panjang. Perit hidup, katanya. So do I.

At the rate things are going from bad to worse, it is a bleak future that I foresee.

My dear mother (seorang ibu). put your head up high and be optimistic.

We will see how our MPs especially on the new PR side deal with this. I certainly want to see my new elected MP really try her hard to do something about this. Because they CAN make a difference.

kak ton, I've given up on this gomen moon ago, almost giving up on this country now. I wonder if KJ will change to a kancil. What's a few hundreds or thousands more in fuel $$ for the rich, but the the middle and lower income, it means cutting down on others, eating into their expenses, lesser savings, no holidays etc. If petronas are making those billions they are making, why do they have to cut down this subsidy. And where does the subsidy goes? The economy is damp for almost 1 year and I dont see anything being done to revive it. EVERYTHING will be expensive from now on, everyone is fighting to get piece of the shrinking pie. Our current Gomen is a real moron!!!

Kak Ton,
The government should change their style of management. They should be more prudent with the management of the country's wealth. Saveon unnecessary projects like defence procurements, official jets and unnecessary official visits and soon there will be more money to improve public transport.
It is ineviatble to raise the price of fuel but keep other prices low. Price of fuel in Thailand is high but their other necessity like food and transport is low so their people can manage to live by though frugally.
