PM: No more petrol price increases this year

There will be no further increase to the price of fuel in the country this year despite the possibility of the global price of oil reaching US$200 (RM660) per barrel, the Prime Minister said.

This latest decision by the Cabinet came on top of various measures announced on Monday to help the Government cut costs and channel more subsidies to low income earners.

Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said to stem any more increase, the Government would have to think of alternative ways to finance its spending.

“If that is the decision of the Cabinet, this will remain so despite further jumps to the global price of oil.

“Since the Government announced the new price last week, fuel prices have gone up to US$139 (RM459) per barrel and is still hovering at US$130 (RM429). Read the full Star report here.

(Can we take Pak Lah's word after he has reversed so many decisions made and a track record of unfulfilled promises?)

Kak

That pretty much depends on whether he has the time to flip or not, I believe. It would be something very very drastic if her were to increase the petrol prices again in the next few months, and not to mention political suicide. But according to Anwar, in the next few months, Pak Lah wouldn't be there anymore to make the decisions on whether the fuel price should increase.

I don't know if what Anwar says is going to happen, but it would be interesting to note that with all the hype Anwar is creating by announcing the price reductions he is planning for when he makes it to office, it's no wonder Pak Lah's decision to raise the fuel prices are so unpopular.

I'm curious about what you think about it kak. :)

What's going to happen if there's another increase in the next few months? After so many flip flops within 24 hours, the propaganda machine will spin why this has to be done. Change your lifestyle is the solution the govt will tell us.

Has the govt done anything to help us cope with the rising costs? The few crumbs come with a lot of hidden costs.

What is important is what is going to happen next, probably not the massive speculations involved. Most importantly also is good and valuable analysis and beneficial effects.
