EC will decide status of two Perak assemblymen today

The Election Commission (EC) which will decide on the validity of the resignation letters allegedly signed by the PKR state executive councillors, Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (pic below left) and Changat Jering assemblyman Mohd Osman Jailu (pic right), according to the Sun.

EC Chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the meeting would discuss various aspects including the legal perspective since there were obvious contradictions of facts to the extent of creating confusion.

"I have not received the resignation letters mentioned because the office is closed for the holiday but I have contacted Perak EC Director Ahmad Adli Abdullah who informs me that he has received the resignation letters of the two assemblymen and also letters denying their resignation," he said.

Meanwhile, Ahmad said he had personally received the duo's letters from Perak State Assembly Speaker V.Sivakumar at 8am Monday.

Sivakumar who also faxed the resignation letters to the EC headquarters in Putrajaya Monday, is however believed to have gone into hiding following alleged threats from certain quarters.

"Strictly speaking the EC should consider it official when the State Speaker tenders the resignation letter of any assemblyman. However, the final decision on the vacancies of these two state seats of Behrang and Changat Jering lies with Tan Sri who will have the final say on the matter," Ahmad said.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin had an audience with the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah, at Istana Kinta here at 10am Monday to brief him on the political development and the issue surrounding the resignations of the duo. To conitnue read here...
