Recount for Youth post, it's Khairy vs Mukhriz (update)

updated 10.10pm The contest for the Umno Youth chief post was so close that a recount of votes is currently underway following objections raised by the candidates.

The recount of the votes for the Youth wing top post contest is expected to delay the official announcement of the outcome.

umno 59 agm 2009 wanita puteri youth opening 250309 01According to earlier information gleaned from inside the assembly halls, the race to be the Umno Youth chief was a close one with the lead changing hands among the three contestants.

The post is being coveted by Khairy Jamaluddin, Mohd Khir Toyo and Mukhriz Mahathir.

Political observers are predicting a photo-finish involving all three candidates for the post.

Both Khairy and Mukhriz supporters could be seen singing boisterously outside the counting hall.

From inside sources, the race can either go to Khairy or Mukhriz with Khir Toyo out of the picture.

According to a Malaysiakini report updated at 6.15pm Mohd Khir Toyo seemed to have overtaken Khairy Jamaluddin in the race for the post of Umno Youth chief.

Earlier information indicated that Khairy was leading in the race, with still some way to go before the manual counting process ends.

Both Khir and Khairy, along with Mukhriz Mahathir, are vying to head the powerful youth wing to replace the outgoing head Hishammuddin Hussein.

Political observers however are predicting a photo-finish involving Khairy and Khir for the post.

As for the race for the Wanita Chief post, a change of leadership seems to be in the cards with Shahrizat taking the lead against incumbent Rafidah Aziz.

Umno dulu, kini dan selama-lamanya memang tak boleh tukar. Pilih pemimpin muda yang mengamalkan rasuah yang akan menerajui parti untuk menghadapi cabaran depan.

Mukhriz won by 12 votes. Unofficial.and at
10:52 -- Someone said it's KJ by 25 votes?!

That is the reason for the recount.

Glad Khir is out of the race.

But KJ???

Still waiting for the final results.

Hope the winner is Mukhriz.
