"Protes" at KLCC: Dozens picked up

Police have detained more than two dozen individuals near the Kuala Lumpur City Centre ahead of a protest against price hikes organised by the Coalition Against Inflation (Protes), according to Malaysiakini.

They included a Malaysiakini reporter.

Yesterday, police obtained a restraining order from the court to stop Protes from gathering at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and warned that that they would not hesitate to detain anyone who ignore the order.

Copies of the the warrant were pasted on various locations within the vicinity of KLCC.

Protes is protesting against a possible oil price hike and other essential goods and services, likely in April.

The police turned out in their hundreds to disperse a peaceful gathering of about 100 people at the Twin Towers.

Why are the police scared of citizens who just want to express their unhappiness over something that concerns them/us?

Why dont they go after the REAL criminals?

No wonder crime rate is rising. They are going after the wrong people.

What a waste of manpower.

Why cant the government take heed of the people's grievances?

And in this case, they are REAL grievances because Malaysians are feeling the pinch of inflation.

Did Bernama black out the story on the protes demonstration?

I tried looking for the story online, but I coulnt find it. Same thing with NST and Star online.

Did they get instruction from the 4th floor boys?

This is bad, if that was true, trying to hide the reality on the ground. Why is the BN govt so afraid?

You know what I noticed? It does not matter if the country practices democracy or not, when there are demonstrations (peaceful or otherwise), the police are always there. More arrest happens if the government is afraid of the citizen's voice. The policemen are there because they are just doing their job. They are sent out by the powers-that-be. That is my observation, anyway.

The government has the power to change things and give us a better living. It's just that they have come to a point where they rather not listen to concerns anymore, if they can help it.

Police turned out in hundreds against some 200 protestors.

Its like David and Goliath.

But then we know at the end of the day, who was the victorious one.

So vote wisely in the coming GE.

Say "NO" to the BN!!

What's wrong with protesting against rising prices of essential goods which affect the raykats' pocket?

The rakyats are feeling the pinch. Dont the leaders know that?

We'll know how to get back at you. We are not stupid. Ther's a limit to one's tolerance.

Yes, I am ready for GE...any time. That is when I will exercise my right!

Yes sir!

rakyat biasa,

The event was covered by both NST and the Star.

But Bernama didnt. I tried looking up for it, but couldn't find any.

I see no reason why these 58 people should be arrested or why the court gave a restraining order to stop Protes from protesting.

As far as I'm concerned they have a legitimate reason and its their right to do so - protesting against pending price hikes.

It is something that affect them and all of us.

That's what happens when one (be it a party or person) has been in power for too long. It becomes bongkak.

An illegal act is an illegal act no matter how you want to justify it and I am surprised that you find PROTES act as being "nothing wrong"!

-disputing the court action is really something
- notwithstanding the above, hmm hmm protesting about something that they speculate will happen in april is really mindboggling.
- BTW, did PROTES apply for a permit in the first place?

The police should put their time and energy to better use by looking for missing sharlinie.

But unfortunately they think maintaining peace for other malaysian citizens from those protesting against price hike is better than looking for missing little Nini.
