Cracks in the opposition "coalition" already? And so soon?

I am a little confused here. I thought the choice and appointment of the candidate for the post of Mentri Besar in Perak has already been agreed to by the three parties, DAP, Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and PAS in the spirit of Barisan Rakyat.

An earlier story reported that Pasir Panjang assemblyman from PAS, Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, has been appointed as Perak Mentri Besar, while the DAP assemblyman for Setiawan, will be one of two Deputy Mentris Besar for the state.

And now the Star report says the DAP will boycott the swearing- in of the Perak Menteri Besar tomorrow.

DAP to boycott Perak MB swearing-in

Wednesday March 12, 2008MYT 8:24:38 PM

PETALING JAYA: The DAP central executive committee (CEC) has voiced its unhappiness over the appointment of erak PAS secretary Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin as Mentri Besar of Perak.

In a statement on Wednesday, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said, “The DAP CEC has given approval for the formation of a Perak coalition government headed by DAP or PKR but not by PAS.”

Lim said DAP leaders, members and supporters are shocked at the decision to
appoint a PAS assemblyman as Perak MB.

“DAP is prepared to accept DAP chairman and assemblyman for Sitiawan Ngeh Koo Ham or PKR Behrang assemblyman Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi as Perak Mentri Besar.

“As the appointment of Mohamad Nizar as Perak Mentri Besar representing the
third and smallest political party in the proposed coalition has not received the mandate of the CEC, DAP Perak assemblymen will stay away from the swearing-in ceremony for Perak Mentri Besar scheduled Thursday.”

Kak Ton,

Dulu nenek selalu kata "kuasa itu memabukkan."

Saya tak pernah faham, being a child at that time.

Now, I am seeing it with my own eyes.

Thanks to DAP and their untimely arrogance, we might as well forget about having a prosperous and peaceful coalition among the oppositions. :-(

Kit Siang has lost my respect with one fell swoop. Is it the DAP CEC decision or Kit's alone?

The DAP Perak chair had already committed himself to the Sultan's wisdom. Why did Kit now overruled his own man publicly?

DAP has to live with political reality to show it is really Malaysian Malaysia.

Am beginning to wonder if Kit is truly a leader. As a leader, Kit must not be pressurised by his core support sentiments.

Kit used to condemn BN for exercising brute majority in Dewan. Now that DAP has the most seats, demanding its own way is hypocritical.

If Kit could endorse the Sultan's choice of PAS adun as MB, he would have gained a lot of goodwill among all Malaysians for being generous and confounded his critics of being a Chinese chauvinist.

Kak Ton, am very sad by the turn of event. Kit is out of touch with the current mood. We had enough of BN's nonsense and we were prepared to enter uncharted waters.

It doesn't matter what colour the cat as long as it can catch rats.

What's gone into Lim Kit Siang's head?

He's not thinking right. Where has all goodwill gone to? Seems to have disappear into the thin air.

Does he know what the implications of the DAP's boycott? Just confirm's the belief that DAP is not better than Umno. It is a racist party.

I regret that I gave my vote to the DAP. Never mind there's always another G.Election.

Arrogance wont take you anywhere, uncle Kit.

Remember that!

After what we have achieved, you're destroying the coalition with your ego.

You're getting too big-headed!

Not a wise move. Not at all

I think it’s plain stupid if you the DAP state assemblymen decide not to attend the swearing-in ceremony but remain as part of the state government.

In the next GE, the Malays will run back to the BN & PAS at the way the DAP is showing up itself.

Kak Ton,
I used to address this man as Mr. Lim Kit Siang. Now he is just Lim Kit Siang.
hi&lo spoke well for the rest of us. Nothing more to be added. As long as Lim Kit Siang is at the helm of DAP, there is no way the Malays can support DAP. We made a mistake of befriending and angel that we don't know of when we left the devil that we know.

Kit Siang ehy uou giving ammunition for the BN to shoot at the Opposition coolition.

We fought hard for this. Dont let the victory achieved to simply slip away.

Dont know what to say. Am sad as well as angry with this boycott thing by the DAP.

For the sake of unity, I hope the DAP guys will go for teh swearing-in ceremony.

OMG, not even a week after the 12the GE and we have this. That's bad. And we have five years to go.

Why must Lim Kit Siang screw this up?

Yeah, power can go to one's head.

I've lost so much respect for Kit.

Kit Siang sounds like a drunkard intoxicated with power!

You forgot that if it had not been for BN supporters who voted for the Opposition candidates you wont be able to deprive the BN its 2/3 majority.

At the rate things are enfolding, the Malays must have regretted going for the Opposition, especially those who voted for the DAP.

For once, that goblok ex info minister is right after all!

Why is anyone surprised by this?

Come on, how deluded can you be to think that DAP will ever stop being what it always was??

I guess all the so-called Malay intellectuals who were so condescending towards the 'conservative', 'old-fashioned', or 'chauvinistic' Malay who would not consider voting for DAP might have second thoughts now, emmm?
