Pak Lah hits back at Dr M and Ku Li

Umno president and prime minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi has hit back at Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah for their criticism of his leadership.

Dr Mahathir has asked Abdullah to step down and holds him responsible for the Barisan Nasional's bad performance in the recent polls, while the Gua Musang MP has criticised him for making inept decisions.

Responding to the former Prime Minister's claims that there is no freedom of media Abdullah said:

"Does he not remember that during his time, he asked the media to 'block out' stories and photos of (former Prime Minister) Tun Hussein Onn and not give coverage to certain people.

"As for Operasi Lalang, don't forget who's responsible," he said, in reference to the 1987 crackdown in which over 100 people were arrested under the Internal Security Act for purportedly causing racial tension and posing a threat to national security.

Abdullah was speaking to reporters yesterday after giving a briefing to Umno grassroots leaders at PWTC over the party's performance in the general election.

Abdullah, while acknowledging that his predecessor has strengths and influence, said the Tun had misused these to the extent of undermining Umno.

"When we won in 2004, he said it was kuat sangat, tak elok (too strong, it was not appropriate) and there must be opposition.

"But when the Opposition rose, I thought he would celebrate but hentam pulak (he hit out instead). So attaining great success was a mistake and to secure a slim win is also a mistake. What is it that can be accepted?”

On Tengku Razaleigh
Abdullah said the Gua Musang MP should take a good look at himself.

"He was the reason Barisan lost Kelantan to PAS in the first place," he said, adding that the Kelantan leader had done nothing to win the state back.

Abdullah also took a potshot at former deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, now leader of the Barisan Rakyat and making a political comeback, saying that Anwar could wait all he liked.

"He may be the Prime Minister-in-waiting but I'm the leader of today," he stressed.

He accused Anwar of trying to control the media when he was the deputy Prime Minister.

On politics and the election
Abdullah claimed that Barisan Nasional (BN) would not have lost control of Kedah and Perak if not for sabotage by Umno members in several parliament and state seats.

We would not have lost if not for problems created within the areas. We should have won 14 more parliamentary seats and 22 more state seats (in these two states), based on analysis and information we received,” he said.

“The issue of sabotage will be referred to the Umno disciplinary committee,” Abdullah said. He declined to reveal the possible reasons, saying the matter should come before the committee first.

“We lost four states, and we have to understand that the election was one that gave us a signal that we must accept and admit and we need to prepare to carry out these efforts...

“I understand that the support then (the large mandate it won in 2004) was because of the promises we made in our manifesto, which included issues that needed to be overcome due to the weakness of the administration before mine.

“I admit that in the four years, our government – under my leadership – could not carry through the promises made fully.

(He still doesn't get it, does he?. Blaming everything and everyone except himself. Accusing Umno members of sabotage and treason. Doesn’t he wonder why it happened in the first place? Blaming Ku Li for the Barisan Nasional's loss in Kelantan instead of the infighting in Kelantan Umno - which was a major contributing factor for the coalition's defeat in the state . You are the Prime Minister, President of Umno and chairman of the BN and you have the audacity to put the blame on others? Have you no shame? )

Sabotaj? Masih lagi dalam keadaan menafikan kelemahan sendiri?

jangan lah nak putar pakai statistics pulak. Kerusi yang dimenangi oleh UMNO termasuk kerusi dari Sabah. Berapa kerusi yang UMNO menang di Semenanjung?

If He thinks Ku Li is the reason, BN lost Kelantan lost, then he is the reason, Penang went to the Opposition. The same too for the other four states.

You are the reason, stupid! Still in denial mode?

Why do you blame Ku Li? What about Annuar Musa and Awang Adek - both lost their seats?

They were running the show, in charge of Umno in Kelantan.

Jangan asyik nak salahkan orang lain atas kekalahan diri sendiri sebagai Presiden parti.

Malulah sikit.

Jangan cakap terlalu angkuh, Pak Lah.

As Nuraina of Jln Sudin wrote, you're living on borrowed time.

You said before the election, Anwar was irrelevent. Look at what he has suceeded where you have failed. Bringng together the Opposition under the banner of Barisan Rakyat and toppled BN in five states.

Is this the way an Islam Hadhari imam speaks?

And you say let him wait? Maybe he'll be the next PM - sooner than you expect!

God willing!

Blame, blame, blame
That's the game.

Oh dear. Pak Lah, as long as you stubbornly remain where you are refusing to accept the reality on the ground and the reasons for BN/Umno's defeat, you are not going fix the problem Umno is facing. You cant wish them away.

Your hangers-on are asking you to stay as long as possible because ultimately they are going to lose out when you step down.

You said you are listening to the what the people are saying. Are you? Really?

Pak Lah, just accept the fact that BN lost in five states and failed to wrest Kelantan from PAS because the people have rejected you and what you stand for.

It is as simple as that. No need to point fingers lah.

We have enough of you and the burungs kakak tua surrounding you.

You lembik? You mean you didnt know that you are?

Kak Ton, might as well blame his sick cat for the losses, he didnt get it, not getting it and will never get it, just sheer denial. While the opposition are strategizing to be stronger and better, he and his goons are floating around and still in dreamland, and i guess it's good news to the opp.

Forget about reforming Umno, If this is how Pak Lah is handling it, I think we will see worse days for Umno.

I remember, after the elections, he said a lot of things....to make things better, to make sure this and that (after the calls for him to step down)...he even acknowledged that his spin doctors had failed him.

aaah....someone told him to say something else now.

Sometimes I really think that we should all not bother about what happens to Umno,,,,becos Umno is not even bothered about itself..

where is the dignity?

Umno has lost it, man!

I totally agree with Nuraina. The change that must take place cannot happen if the leaders are in denial.

The question is whether Umno is ready to re-invent itself to remain relevant in a a changing and evolving multi-cultural environment.

However, the political rhetoric that is coming out from especially Umno leaders to date does not resonate with the message that voters have sent to the coalition, particularly to Umno.

Bodohwi, the "ball-less" puppet!

let's say that it is true BN lost because of saboteurs, then dont you think Pak Lah should ask why?

Something must be wrong if members in these states voted for the Barisan rakyat or they didnt help out and abstain from voting.

Doesnt take a genius to figure that out.

And a stupid PM who could not figure out why.

Didnt Pak Lah claim that My Government has got a strong majority (although) not the two-thirds (majority), but very strong...that is the stand of support."?

And why is he now talking about BN being sabotaged?

See, that's the problem if you let others "think" for you, not that they are thinking straight, but that you as the Prime Minister are not capable of thniking at all.

That's the reason he talks nonsense and makes contradictory and idiotic statements.

Pak Lah you're a coward. A pengecut who is simply finding a scapegoat to blame for your own failure.

Yor're a gonna, Pak Lah. You have confirmed again and again and again to Malaysians what an idiot you are!
