S.I.L not saying if he'll join Umno youth race

Umno Youth deputy chief Khairy Jamaluddin (pic right), has refused to say if he would go for the wing’s top post in the December party polls.

His reason? There was no reason for him to make a decision now as the polls were still months away, he said.

"Also, I need to get the views from the branches and divisions first. Only then will I make my decision known,” he said when met at his service centre near Rembau.

Khairy, who is MP of Rembau said he party was his priority and he would not be hasty in joining the fray to contest the top post, the Star reports.

“Umno is an institution and I must hear the views of the grassroots first,” he said

Here's the rest of the story:

Asked on Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s decision not to seek re-election as Umno Youth chief, Khairy said this had to be respected although it was a great loss to the Youth wing.

Hishammuddin, who is also Education Minister, said on Thursday that he would not be defending the post and that it was time to make way for someone else.

“Umno Youth made tremendous progress with Datuk Seri Hishammuddin at the helm for 10 years “I will personally continue to support him if he decides to contest for any post in the party election,” he said.

On the decision by Jerlun MP Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir and former Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo to offer themselves for the top post in the youth wing, Khairy said anyone was free to contest.

“What is important is that we must follow the democratic process which has been long practised in the party. We must elect the best leaders who can continue to effectively lead Umno,” he said.

Khairy expressed hoped that anyone who wished to contest for positions in the Youth wing would strive to unite the wing to face future challenges

Asked if a contest for the top position in the youth movement would split the party, Khairy expressed confidence that its members were mature and no one would take the opportunity to try and create disunity..."

(At least, he's smart enough to know that the timing is not right at the moment. He's aware many expect him to go for it, after all he's the no. 2 man in the movement. It's only logical that he does... moves upwards. Otherwise he'd be seen as a coward and he also knows many are ready to whack him either way. Damn he does, damn he doesn't. I think he is going to "wait and see." And definitely if he finally does join the fray, which I believe he will, it aint going to be easy this time around. Nobody is going to give him a "laluan." That's for sure.)

Sudahlah KJ.

I hope you will contest, dan minta-mintakan kau kalah. Baru padan muka.

i hope he contest and take the entire umno into a deep sea plunge, he wants to be PM - that's for sure, but with their major loses, he's just staying at the background. dont forget he was the one who said that internet and bloggers arent important, only those in urban areas read online news and umno main strength still comes from the kampong..and of course FIL pun dengar lah nasihat si Penasihat Negara and look what happend?

Like FIL, like SIL.

Not confirming anything till the last minute. No need lah - almost the whole kampung knows the eventual outcome.

Grassroots indicated to him, he 'did' lost in Rembau, but Tongkat Ali (or Tongkat AAB) lend a hand in postal votes.

His PR activities post GE not in full swing. Better keep mouth shut - because the last time he opened his gap, outcomes wasn't in favor to him.

Smart dude, but still not smart enough.

Beliau tidak patut rebut jawatan..
Beliau akan memalukan PM kerana kadar peratusan untuk kalah tinggi...
Pertarungan dr khir n mukhriz is the best..
Naib Pemuda juga perlu ditandingi..

Whether he likes it or not or whether it's the right time or not,KJ has no choice but to go to this battle to win the Pemuda top post.He has to go for broke.

This is one battle he has to win if he still wishes to become PM before he reaches 40!But again this time around it will be a very different ball game all together.

He will not find it smooth sailing like when he contested the Naib Ketua Pemuda post and won uncontested previously. He will have to fight a "real" battle like a man.KJ can't hide behind his FIL anymore because his old man has not much credibility left of him.He needs credibility more than KJ now to survive this turbulant time!

Anyway I wish to see a two corner fight between KJ and Mukhriz. To Khir Toyo,go for MT post like before because Pemuda wing is in need of fresh blood and fresh ideas.Pemuda needs a new warrior to lead them and not a fallen hero like you.....

I agree with Tok Mommy that Khairy will contest for the number 1 post. He's just waiting for the right time.

I also agree with Anon 2:45PM that Khairy has no choice but to go for it.

But let it be an open fight. A clean & fair one. We shall see the real victor.

My bet is on Mukhriz...he has a clean image, no scandals so far, humble, brave and willing to take risk.

Khairy, well I dont have to say, right?

It's going to be different this time.

I also would like it to be a straight fight between Mukhriz and Khairy & wish that Khir toyo will withdraw his candidacy.

Why go for the pemuda chief post?
