The Kelana Jaya anti-fuel rally

About 30,000 gathered for the closing of the all-day anti-fuel price hike protest at the Kelana Jaya stadium last night to hear speeches by top Pakatan leaders, according to Malaysiakini .

People started trickling into the 50,000 capacity stadium since early morning, to be greeted by vendors selling Pakatan Rakyat party mementos, T-shirts, cassettes and posters. About 17 stalls had set up business since yesterday with traders reporting brisk business.

The crowd, however, swelled to more than 30,000 by the time Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took over the mike slightly after 10.

In hs speech Anwar challenged the prime minister and deputy prime minister to the debate over fuel price hike on July 15. (read here )

He said many have doubted him if he really has the formula to lower the fuel price.

"Now I will tell the formula straight to them (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak).

"I am even willing to face the cabinet for the debate (initiated by Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek)," he told the rally.

Anwar also said now that he has decided to attend the debate, he hoped the TV station would not try to stop the debate from going on air.

The rally is organised by the Coalition Against Inflation (Protes).

Tok mommy,

I couldnt go but according to a bernama report the rally did not get good response.

Poor Public Response To Anti-government Rally Over Oil Price Hike,

The plan by the Coalition Against the Fuel Price Hike (Protes) to gather one million people to pressure the government to reduce the oil price, fell well short of the target when only about 10,000 people turned up at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium, near here, Sunday night.

Biasalah tu - that is one great spinner.

Dear rakyat,

If you do not know already, BERNAMA stands for the National News Agency.

In fact, it should change its name to National Government News Agency.

If it is not pro-government in its reporting, it wont be doing its job and cant justify its existence.

Simple as that.

http://sagaladoola.blogspot.com/2008/07/spinning-report-on-fuel-price-hike.html

I totally agree with him that we need an equal measure of fair reporting. That's all.

It is not hard to guess which side the Bernama report leans towards.

Of course it was a flopped propaganda. Their target 1,000,000 but only 25,000 turned out. Its merely 2.5% from their target.

Hello maria,

30,000 out of 1 million expected to attend the all-day anti-fuel price hike protest.

It is a good thing that the rally is done without any incident occur. Otherwise the crowd would definitely blame the federal government for the sudden distubance during the ceremony held.

But the people attend is too minority and small. People understand that attending the protest would not make any effect or changes to the current situations. They might as well just watch the drama ceremony at home.

People are now more educated with the current issues happened in the country. This issue has been talk and revised for weeks, and the public is getting fed-up with the issue. They already could cope with the situation with just a moment of adjustments in their daily life work or schedule to cushion the impact despite the hike fuel price.

Sooner later, the crowd is getting used to the hike fuel price. It is just a matter of time.
